वैद्य श्रीनिवास हिर्लेकर यांचे पी.एच‌ डी. (वाङ्ग्मय आचार्य) चे संशोधन- प्रबंधकार्य   

         परमहंस परिव्राजकाचार्य वासुदेवानंद सरस्वती टेंबे यांनी मराठी भाषेतील ’गुरुचरित्र’ ह्या ग्रंथाचे ’द्विसाहस्री’ ह्या ग्रंथाद्वारे संस्कृत रुपांतर केले. या ग्रंथाची चिकित्सक, संशोधित परिष्कृत, सर्वांगसंपूर्ण आवृत्ती तयार करणे या संशोधन कार्याबद्दल वैद्य श्री .पु. हिर्लेकर यांना अमरावती (महाराष्ट्र, भारत), विद्यापीठाकडून पी.एच‌.डी.(वाङ्ग्मय आचार्य) ही पदवी प्रदान करण्यात आली. 
      ’द्विसाहस्री ’  हा ग्रंथ म्हणजे दत्तसांप्रदायिक मराठीतील ग्रंथ गुरुचरित्राचे एक प्रकारे संस्कृत रुपांतर आहे. ह्या संस्कृत ग्रंथात एकूण २६ अध्याय असून २,२०० श्लोक आहेत. या पद्यमय ग्रंथावर स्वत: वासुदेवानंद सरस्वती टेंबे स्वामींनीच विस्तृत विवरणात्मक टीका (विश्लेषण) केली आहे. या विश्लेषणावरून स्वामींची अगाध विद्वता, बहश्रुतता आणि अधिकार दिसून येतो. या विश्लेषणामध्ये स्वामींनी आपल्या प्रतिपादनाच्या पुष्टीसाठी सुमारे २,००० संदर्भ वचने उद्‌धृत केली असून निरनिराळ्या विषयांवरील या ग्रंथांची संख्या सुमारे २०० आहे. वासुदेवानंद सरस्वती टेंबे स्वामीं लिखित ५०० मुद्रित पृष्टांचा हा संस्कृत ग्रंथ हिर्लेकरांच्या संशोधनाचा विषय होता. ह्या ग्रंथाच्या यापुर्वी आठ आवृत्या निघाल्या आहेत. पण त्यातील बहुतेक सदोष आणि अपूर्ण होत्या. चिकित्सक संशोधक आणि सर्वांगसंपूर्ण अशी त्यापैकी एकही आवृत्ती नव्हती. तशी आवृत्ती तयार करणे हे हिर्लेकरांचे संशोधन कार्य. त्यांनी आपल्या आवृत्तीला सहा परिशिष्टे जोडली आहेत. त्यांच्या संशोधनाचे विस्तृत स्वरूप त्यावरून स्पष्ट येते. अशी संशोधित चिकित्सक आवृत्ती संपादित केल्याबद्दल अमरावती विद्यापीठाने हिर्लेकरांना पी.एच‌.डी.(वाङ्ग्मय आचार्य) ही पदवी प्रदान केली.

Amravati University,(M.S.), India, has awarded Ph.D. on this editing work.

What Amravati University found in the work liable to award the Ph.D. honour is: 
Vaidya S. P. Hirlekar  prepared a critical, correct and revised edition of the Sanskrit book named Dyisahasree – written by Vasudevananda Saraswatee (Tembye Swami). It is a sort of Sanskrit version of Marathi Gurucharitra. This Sanskrit book contains 26 chapters, consisting of 2200 verses in all. An exhaustive commentary is added to all of these verses by the writer himself. This commentary depicts the scholarship of high standard, and full of 2000 previous references, collected from nearly 200 ancient Sanskrit books on several subjects.
This voluminous work (Printed pages 500) was the subject of this investigation. Till then, eight editions of the book were printed. Most of these were erroneous and incomplete. None of these were critical according to present norms. This edition has been prepared at this juncture. Six appendixes are added to it; expressing Hirlekar’s mode of investigation.”
The university approved it for Ph.D. work.
